Big Bear Line Fire - Sept 2024
Cabin Fire Protection and Prevention
When you live in a forested area like the Big Bear Southwest Shore Colony, the prospect of a forest wild fire is never far from your mind. We do what we can to keep the forest healthy and to prevent forest fires, but we still must face the inevitable question of what can we do to protect our cabins from fire if it comes near our area, as it recently did with the Line Fire in September 2024.
Brad Kinney (Cabin 71-72) has been working hard to protect his cabin structure from becoming an easy target for flying sparks and swirling embers. In the following Wildfire Preparating Checklist that he recently created, Brad offers some suggestions of ways to protect your cabin from becoming a casualty of the next forest fire that threatens the Big Bear area:

In addition to Brad’s valuable action plan and checklist above, the National Forest Homeowners website (NFH) offers some useful planning and prevention tips to prepare your cabin and your neighborhood for Disaster Emergencies such as forest fires:

Please read both Brad’s suggestions as well as the NFH planning tips, and begin the process of making your cabin and your neighborhood safe and ready before the next disaster strikes.
