Interactive Map of Nearly 14,000 Cabins in USFS Recreation Residence Program

There are nearly 14,000 cabins in the U.S. Forest Service Recreation Residence Program. Cabins and their lots are typically grouped into one of the 900 cabin tracts defined by the Forest Service. These cabin tracts are located on 95 National Forests in 24 States, plus Puerto Rico. More than 190 local cabin associations have been formed by the cabin owners and are typically made up of one or more cabin tracts. Associations plus individuals comprise the 6,000 NFH members. The tracts and associations reside in a USFS designated region as color coded above.

Map Created by Ed Leonhardt, Southwest Shore Association, Big Bear Lake, CA

Our own SWS neighbor, Ed Leonhardt (Cabin 39), actually created this Interactive Map for National Forest Homeowners. We all know Ed as the owner/operator of the SWS “CabinCam” and weather station, which we have all enjoyed viewing for many years. Ed has recently joined the NFH Technology Committee, where he contributes his technology expertise along with his experience as a cabin owner, in order to enhance the benefits of technology for all cabin owners nationwide, both individually and collectively. Thanks, Ed, for all your good work, both here at the Southwest Shore, and nationally at National Forest Homeowners.
