Annual Dues

Financial Reports

Overview

The Big Bear Southwest Shore Association solicits dues from each cabin to cover various Association projects and administrative expenses. Additionally, the Association has occasionally made special assessments to cover specific large projects, such as major brush clearance and removal of dead trees. Only the administrative and operational expenses that affect most all cabins are paid by the Southwest Shore Association. Other cabin owner expenses are handled individually by cabin owners, or by a subgroup of cabin owners who have very localized needs. Examples of such localized groups are the following:

  • Keystone Point Road Association

  • Spring Road Association

  • Don Carlos Road Association

  • Treasure Island Water Association

Annual Dues

The Southwest Shore Association collects $100 per cabin per year. From that amount, $50 per year pays the SWS Association’s Dues for general operating expenses, regular maintenance projects, administrative expenses, and a reserve for unforeseen or emergency projects. Although our SWS annual assessment is voluntary, we hope that each cabin group will choose to collaborate with their SWS neighbors by funding the maintenance and operation of our Southwest Shore Colony.

In addition to $50 for the SWS Annual Dues, the other $50 per cabin per year pays for that cabin’s Regular Membership in National Forest Homeowners (NFH). NFH is a national organization that represents and advocates for the 14,000 Forest Service cabin owners nationwide. Many issues, policies, and regulations are national in scope, affecting all Forest Service cabin owners. We Southwest Shore owners, along with all other Forest Service cabin owners nationwide, definitely need the national expertise, representation, and influence provided by NFH and focused in Washington, D.C. NFH representatives lobby Senators and Congressmen to advocate for policies and legislation that are favorable to cabin-owner interests as Recreational Residence permitees on U.S. National Forest lands.

The Annual SWS Dues Assessment of $100 may be paid by check or paid electronically using Venmo, Zelle, or PayPal. Follow this link to the SWS Dues and NFH Membership Payment Form, for further instructions.

National Forest Homeowners has other membership options in addition to the Regular Membership. Please follow this link to review the various NFH membership options. If you wish, you can select one of those options when you make your SWS Dues and NFH Membership payment.
